Full Biography
When searching for someone that can do it all, look no further than Jacob Reavis. With a wide array of skills offered, there’s virtually nothing musical that Reavis can’t provide. Growing up in the small town of Augusta, Kansas, Jacob took up music from a very young age. He started taking lessons while in elementary school, participated in band from elementary-middle school, and later joined multiple ensembles while at Augusta High School. Throughout his time in Augusta, Reavis truly discovered his love of music by performing in his school’s Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, and Show Choir, as well as various professional bands in the area. As his school-related musical time in Augusta came to an end, Jacob knew he wanted to take it further. Enrolled at Belmont University, he began to learn a wide array of other styles and skills related to audio engineering, music technology, composition and arranging, performance, and professionalism. With the experience Reavis has gained throughout his time studying and working in the music field, he’s sure to offer an excellent product in any of his various skilled areas.
Undoubtedly, the area Reavis has studied the most is musicianship itself, namely instrument ability. Taking lessons for various instruments in various styles throughout his development as a musician, Jacob has learned to do everything from jazz guitar to country drums to rock vocals, and everything in between. Thanks to his excellent instructors like Paulo Oliveira, Nick Palmer, and Bruce Bennett, he has truly honed in his skill as a musician. Throughout his three years in Nashville, Reavis has gained plenty of extra experience doing session work for campus music producers to add onto his already extensive resumé. While in Wichita, Reavis performs with multiple bands consistently, primarily in the rock and country areas. Numerous cover bands have recruited Jacob for their roster, while others turn to him for fill-in positions. When the opportunity arises, Jacob is sure to participate with whatever band needs him, providing his stage persona and studio precision.
Not only is Reavis an excellent musician when playing music for others, he can also come up with his own compositions and arrangements to suit the needs of other artists. Beginning his last year of high school in Augusta, Reavis fell in love with the art of arranging. That year alone, he published over a dozen arrangements for his school Jazz Band, Marching Band, and Pep Band. After moving to Belmont, Jacob continued to study this material, also developing his composition and arranging skill through private lessons and classes with professionals, including Keith Mason, David McKay, and Carl Rydlund. Currently, Reavis provides a steady stream of arrangements for multiple groups in Kansas, including Augusta High School’s various bands and choirs, as well as numerous other small groups who’ve recruited him. These artists continue to utilize Jacob’s arranging skill while he studies to move into other areas of composition/arranging, such as film composing. Ranging in areas from jazz to rock to marching acts, Reavis is able to provide whatever compositions/arrangements are needed in order to assist artists with their musical desires.
Along with his experience in performance and arranging, Reavis has also developed a knack for instruction. With his background and skills developed throughout his years as a musician, he is able to convey musical techniques and styles to a variety of upcoming musicians. Jacob currently serves as an assistant instructor for Augusta High School’s Marching Band and Jazz Band, focusing on their Drumline and Jazz/Pep Band Rhythm Section. Not being restricted to only this school, he also provides the opportunity for private lessons on the side. Reavis can teach guitar, drums, bass, piano, or saxophone, as well as composition/arranging private lessons for any student that wishes to expand their knowledge. Currently providing consistent services for Augusta High School, as well as private students in the Wichita area, Jacob is happy to share his knowledge with anyone who wants to learn.
On top of Reavis’s other skills, the area with the most proficiency and professional experience is music technology. Offering services in both live and studio settings, he’s sure to be able to provide anything an artist desires. Throughout his time at Belmont, Jacob has studied music technology, furthering his knowledge of private studio production. With this experience and instruction, he is able to perform a wide range of functions, ranging from virtual score mockups to full band recording sessions. He consistently produces songs for himself to put out on his social media, also working with other Belmont students such as Maggie Fewkes and Preston Martin on their desired projects. Not only is Jacob able to do studio work, but he also has a knack for live sound engineering. From the time he started in high school, Reavis has loved working for a variety of bands in the Wichita area. Consistently servicing groups such as EPIC, Chronic Audio, Toto Kaos, and Sister Sarah Tree, Jacob has developed a well-known reputation around Wichita’s music scene. Not only is he able to provide for these local acts, but he has also had the privilege to work as an assistant for engineers of larger traveling artists such as Aaron Watson, Ned LeDoux, the Bellamy Brothers, and The Long Run at their events in Kansas. Regardless of the scale or type of service, Reavis can provide whatever these artists need in the field of audio production, both live and in the studio.
With his vast array of knowledge and experience in performance, session work, composition/arranging, teaching, and studio/live audio production, Reavis is truly a versatile musician who can be used for a variety of different things. Even with all his skills, proficiencies, and previous experiences, don’t let it fool you - Jacob is still a humble musician and a great personality to work with. His love of this craft is what allows him to continue working, and he will relay this energy in whatever service he provides.
